In developing countries, environmental pollution has emerged as a major
social problem, due to air pollution, water pollution, illegal disposal
of wastes, etc. as a result of the concentration of population in the cities,
promotion of industrialization, etc., destroying the urban environments,
ecosystems, etc.. These countries are speeding up their efforts to build
up a legal system for pollution prevention, construct research institutes,
and establish pollution preventing technologies. However, these countries
are considerably different from one another in their social systems, economic
systems, industrial structures, etc., and it is difficult to introduce
an across-the-board pollution prevention technology. Thus, these countries
are groping about for technologies most suitable for their own countries
(appropriate technologies).
Under such circumstances, our country is strongly called on to make such
international contributions so as to help prevent pollution in the developing
countries and to accelerate the sound growth of their economies by actively
promoting technology transfers of our country's international level environmental
equipment, energy-saving technologies, etc.
