Air Pollution Continuous Monitoring Technology in Japan
Summarizing and utilizing data
1. Confirmation of monitored data
2.2. Using data files
Air pollution is continuously monitored by 22 municipal governments. However, since each local
government owns its measurement data, the data cannot be used without permission. To comprehensive
ly assess air pollution in our whole prefecture, various statistical analyses must be performed by
a computer. Also, when creating separate reports with the same format, it is most efficient to
process all the data obtained by every local government. To this end, we ask the cooperation of
each local government in our prefecture to manage an "Osaka Prefecture air pollution continuous
monitoring measurement data file." This data file is stored separately at the above-mentioned
processing division and the general-purpose computer division. These data have been accumulated
since each of the local governments started to monitor air pollution. Basic materials used by each
local government to summarize the situation are programmed. These materials, held by the
government of Osaka Prefecture, can be provided upon request. Sometimes members of the general
public in Osaka Prefecture ask for the data. In such cases, the person who requested the data is
provided with information from this data file through printouts or magnetic media.
