Notes on the maintenance and management of automatic monitoring instruments

2. Items related to monitoring station for stationary source

2.1 General requirements

2.1.4 Adjustment of calibration gas

(1) Span Calibration
Periodic span gas calibration is critical to insure measurement precision. Some analyzers are equipped with automatic calibration devices that assist with periodic calibration. Span calibration is normally performed by reproducing the zero point and span gas level. If the difference between the preset and measured span levels is greater than 2%, the cause must be checked. The middle point should be checked on a periodic basis to confirm the linearity.

(2) Precautions when using high pressure gases

1)High pressure gas cylinders must be kept in a place where no significant temperature fluctuation occurs.

2) Pressure regulation gauges should be prepared for each type of standard gas.

3) The gas in the pressure reduction zone of the regulator gauge must be completely replaced.

4) The piping distance should be as short as possible.

5) A gas cylinder of a volume of 10 liters can weigh from 15 to 18kg, so care must be exercised when handling the gas cylinders.

6) Should the gas pressure inside the cylinder reach 1.47Mpa (15kgf/cm2) (gauge pressure at 35deg.C), there is a possibility of a change in concentration change. Do not use such a gas even if the shelf time has not expired.

7) To pay careful attention to the toxicity of the gas components.

8) Leak testing and gas pressure management should be performed to prevent gas leakage.

(3) Others
As the analyzer is located close to the furnace or duct, the following safety precautions should be observed.

1) Any tasks near the sampling tube must be conducted by 2 or more personnel.

2) The staff in charge must have full understanding of the composition, temperature and pressure of the emission gases inside the duct, including the working environment.

3) To wear safety gear such as helmets and safety shoes. Do not expose your skin to the gases.

4) Safety measures such as safety belt and life ropes must be utilized when working at an elevated location.

5) To wear dry ice jackets when working in a high temperature zone.
