  1. Background

(1) 1st Committee Meeting (15:00 – 17:00, Thursday, 30 August 2007)

1) Agenda Item 1: Current status of NETT21 and methods for upgrade

A proposal was made regarding the upgrade to the effect that the database should be original and provide data gathered by GEC rather than act as a portal site, and that because the database does not contain third party evaluations the responsibility for its use should lie with the individual users so a disclaimer to that effect should be clearly provided.

2) Agenda Item 2: Studies for the current year

Only one response was received as a result of the group study. Future methods for collecting data should enlist the cooperation of the Japan Chain Stores Association and research of environmental reports as sources of information.

(2) 2nd Committee Meeting (9:30 – 12:30, Friday, 30 November 2007)

1) Agenda Item 1: Report on status of NETT21 upgrade

Currently only half of the targeted information cases have been collected. The challenge herein is how to raise this figure to get closer to the target.

2) Agenda Item 2: Efficiency of data collection

A “selection and concentration” policy should be adopted for the “selection” of industries and companies and their subsequent refinement and “concentration” in order to collect data. Greater access to Osaka-based companies should also be sought by leveraging the Osaka prefectural & municipal and GEC networks.

(3) 3rd Committee Meeting (16:30 – 18:30, Tuesday, 11 March 2008)

1) Agenda Item 1: Report on NETT21 data collection and status

A report was made on the data collection and present status.

2) Agenda Item 2: Web-based publication of additional CP technology information

An initial explanation was given to the effect that this database is currently in the trial phase and that upgrades would be carried out after due consideration of opinions, after which methods for database upgrades and directions would be recorded before providing information. A rethink of the CP concept was also urged. A decision was made to provide information on contaminated soil remediation systems for plant sites within the Soil and Groundwater Contamination Survey and Countermeasure Technologies database.

3) Agenda Item 3: Future schedule

Proposals were made to continuously develop the database while listening to user opinions and to report any additional technical information to the Chairman and Committee Members accordingly.
